“Dehiscence: Pod Studies” is a sculptural series that came out of my habit of collecting seeds and seed pods. I’ve always been very interested in these small natural forms: the way they are constructed, the different textures and geometries they have. As a trained architect, I tend to look at these things almost as little natural constructions, and this series became a way of studying what I observe in the seeds and pods I collect, and translating those observations into wood.

For example, one piece is based on the ridges and structure of a lotus seed pod, another looks at the ribbed interior of a dried Gulmohar pod, while some of the other forms are more about the different ways pods open, split or burst when they reach maturity. The works are not replicas, but interpretations of these details in wood.

The title Dehiscence refers to that botanical process in which a seed pod opens at maturity.
